Time For a Website Refresh

Time For a Website Refresh

Think about looking a through a family photo album. You glance at the pictures of various family members and remember the emotions from those moments. You want to keep these photos forever because of the meaning.

Next, you glance at the wall and see a large canvas photo of your family. Is it current or has it been a while? Are there kids who should be in the photo, but aren’t because they weren’t yet alive when the photo was taken? While you may still want to keep that older photo, it may not be one you want to display still.

Finally, you head over to your phone and pull up your company website. Unlike the rich experiences you are used to with most of the sites you visit, this one is really tiny as it’s a small version of your desktop site. Is it time for a website refresh?

I’ve Finally Gotten My Website Refresh

For me, it’s that time. Four years ago this coming Monday, I launched a new design of my website. Yes, you read that right: four years. It was launched and then I neglected it.

The site was cutting edge. It was mobile responsive and friendly. It was a 100% hand-coded WordPress theme. After one year it was outdated.

Technology moves so fast, how do we keep up? We either make the time to or get someone else to help us.

Being a web developer, there was no way I was going to let someone else do my website for me, so I had to make the time. It took some discipline, but I managed to balance my full-time job, my family life as a husband and father, my church service in the LDS church, and my freelance work on top of that.

Now, think about your own website, or pull it up and look at it. Does it have any of the signs of needing a redesign? Is it time for your website refresh?
